We are teaming up with national charity IPSEA, Independent Provider of Special Educational Advice, to deliver a session around education, meeting individual needs, and how as parents we can help to secure what our children are legally entitled to.
IPSEA are the leading charity in the field of SEND law in England, and they provide free and independent legal advice and support to families of children and young people with SEND. They also provide training on the SEND legal framework, and aim to influence policy at both a local and national level.
All children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have a legal right to an education that meets their individual needs. But many tens of thousands of children and young people with SEND are not getting the support they are legally entitled to.
IPSEA’s mission is to change that!
The SEND system is littered with unlawful decision-making, and parents and carers turn to IPSEA because they are told that their child can’t have the support they need.
They have created a bespoke session for VICTA parents, which will arm you with knowledge that will help you to navigate a flawed system and help you to understand and enforce your rights. This session is for parents of children who are in education who feel their needs are not being met.
The format will be a 2 hour webinar and then time for questions and discussion. It will cover:
- Introduction to IPSEA and its resources
- What support children and young people with SEN and medical needs are legally entitled to
- What placement choices exist for those with SEN
- What protections exist for disabled children and young people
- What you can do if support is not put in place / if you need to make a complaint
We are capping the amount of families that can attend this session, in order to give everyone adequate time to discuss specific issues.
